The communities of Marysville and Marshall County are mourning the tragic loss of Ryan Friedrichs, who died following a collision involving an industrial farm sprayer and a Union Pacific Railroad train in northeast Kansas.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. near the railroad crossing at 675 Harvest Road. Investigators reported that Friedrichs was operating an industrial sprayer southbound on a private driveway just south of Harvest Road when the vehicle entered the crossing and was struck by a westbound train. The impact reportedly ejected him from the vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided assistance, but Friedrichs was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision.
His death has left family members, friends, and community residents in deep shock and sorrow. Those who knew him remember a hardworking individual with strong connections to his family, friends, and the local agricultural community. Many are reflecting on the positive influence he had on the people around him and the role he played in the lives of those who knew him best.
The collision also resulted in injuries to two train conductors, who were transported to Community Memorial Healthcare for treatment of serious injuries.
